Drive

Drive is a neo noir, set to neon music. If that's not cool enough for ya then I'm sorry. The mysterious driver (Ryan Gosling) leads a double life. Stuntman by day, getaway driver by night. He’s a man of few words who stays cool in all situations, very cool. Almost too cool. It's obvious that Gosling is channeling Steve McQueen a bit here, playing the cool anti hero.

The driver gets involved with a pretty lady, and ends up with a bag of cash. Lots of action and sketchy set pieces. Fans of 80s action flicks will feel right at home.

Technically speaking, the movie is also a success. Cinematography is great. Views and angles are often extremely low angled and tilted sharply upward, effective at expanding the feeling of being there of being at the dinner table or in the adjacent seat, right in the room with the characters while safely looking up from some shadow or nook or cranny. Very emotionally transcendent cinematography. Night footage was amazingly successful at capturing the range of light and shadows, the audio and video were strong and assured. Great electro soundtrack, loud motors etc..

I like the ending, it's a semi cliff hanger, that is just positive enough not to annoy the audience. Pretty classic.
